We bought our tickets in December of 2019, pre-pandemic and finally we get to see this awesome concert!
For many years, I’ve wanted to go to Black Hat and to DefCon, but work, life, career, guided me to other places, like RSA conference, or nothing at all. About a year ago, I promised myself I’d make it to Black Hat and DefCon, even if I had to pay for it myself. I’m glad I didn’t, but I would have. Such a great opportunity to network with like professionals and to nerd out on hacking things. While I’m not much of a hacker anymore, I switched focus many years ago, I am still intrigued by it and enjoy watching, thinking, and discussing how to be non-conformist to the intended use of rules, technology, people, and process.
It was my first Black Hat and it was hosted at the Mandalay Bay, beautiful venue and very nice hotel. My hotel where I stayed at, the Linq… shit-hole! Definitely wasn’t a fan. Though while DefCon was around, I was right next to the venue and that was nice… but that was the only good quality about the place. That’s a story for a different time.
And some DefCon photos too!
I have my first opportunity ever to attend Black Hat and DefCon in Las Vegas. I got to rub elbows with others and meet with my co-workers, and also reconnect with some of my peers. It was an experience I very much enjoyed and would like to repeat!
We have been looking forward to this since our last boat trip, and our friends have been looking forward to this for much longer! Since last year. We had a great day and we got to see Donkeys, Coyotes, Fish, Vultures, Ducks, and Mermaids!
We caught huge swells while leaving in the storm last night! Had to quickly get to Scorpion Bay, tie up, and wait it out for about an hour or so. It was still windy when we left, but so late, making it pretty hard to get the boat on the trailer. We made it home safe and had some taquitos! Yum!!
We finally took the boat out today with family and family friends and we went to Lake Pleasant. I have to say I was super surprised at how high the lake water was. While it was a hot 109 that day, being out on the water, it was nice and cool out. We had a new bimini to replace the tore one last year and it worked great!
I’m looking forward to the next time we go!
2019 was the last Phoenix Comic Fest/comic con… It’s officially Fan Fusion, but it’s still a comic con to me. In 2019, we had a larger group and had planned for an X-Men group cosplay, and with our recent success in Los Angeles at Gallifrey 1, we also did our Weeping and Meeping Angels.
Something awesome that Courtney and I planned out, was to have my brother fly out as his birthday gift. While he missed his family dearly, he got to video chat with them daily and also have a great time with us. He even got to hang out with some of his old friends.
Our other friend, who moved away, also flew in to hang out with us!
We had a full itinerary, helping out with Cosplay Fashion shows and other panels, seeing many friends and acquaintances, and just having a good time!
We had a business trip to get everyone together since the acquisition at one of the many Centene campuses. The St. Louis location has a lot of people from the Magellan side of the house who’ve been working there since pre-workfromhome, and that made it a great location.
I flew out the day before to hang out with one of my staff and avoid the rush of trying to get there Monday and I also flew out Friday evening so that I could stay an extra day just in case.
After visiting the Arch, we met up with the rest of the team
So, we went back to the Arizona Ren Faire so that we could actually enjoy it the normal way. We had a great time, the girls dressed as Fairies, and we did a bunch of shopping.
It was David’s first time there and it was Mariah’s birthday-ish (next day but whatever). Lots of fun was had and we ran into some friends there too.
